Description: Join the African American Historical Society of Rockland County for a special Juneteenth event featuring renowned scholar Dr. Deborah G. Plant. Dr. Plant is editor of the New York Times bestseller, Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo.”

She will discuss Zora Neale Hurston’s legacy, her research on Hurston’s efforts to preserve the narratives of the past, and Africatown—the community founded by Cudjo Lewis (Oluale Kossola) and others who survived the transatlantic slave trade.
